From October 27 to 30, the Green Climate Fund Board will hold its final meeting of the year to discuss 24 new climate projects with a potential value of up to $1.4 billion in funding from the Fund. These projects aim to strengthen #climate_action and ambition in the run-up to #COP30.

This meeting comes at a critical time, as international pressure mounts to take effective action to address climate change, particularly with the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change approaching, which is expected to see new commitments and policies to support sustainable development.

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region holds a special place among the proposed projects, as it faces severe climate challenges such as water scarcity, rising temperatures, and the effects of desertification. Project financing in the region focuses on supporting initiatives to promote the use of renewable energy sources, improve water use efficiency, and strengthen the resilience of local communities against the impacts of climate change.

The scope of the proposed projects also ranges from promoting renewable energy and helping local communities adapt to the effects of climate change to improving water and agricultural resource management systems, with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The 20th meeting of the Green Climate Fund Board presents an opportunity to strengthen international cooperation and climate finance that supports developing countries on their journey toward a more sustainable future that is less vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, with a particular focus on the Middle East and North Africa region, which is facing increasing climate pressures.

Funding for these projects provides crucial support for meeting global commitments and implementing ambitious initiatives that ensure an environmentally sustainable and responsible future on the international stage, making the Fund’s meetings a pivotal event in advancing climate efforts during this critical year.
